The Brainwave tab offers presets named for frequency bands commonly discussed in brainwave research. These names describe the preset categories; selecting one is not a measurement of your brain or a guarantee of a particular brain state.
How a binaural beat is made. A slightly different tone is sent to each ear. The difference between the tones is the beat frequency. For example, 200 Hz in the left channel and 210 Hz in the right gives a 10 Hz difference.
